About GrandTour

In our craft workshop in Rome, we have created a line made of composite materials of rings, necklaces and bracelets, in limited quantities and selected using our collection of plaster casts made around 1830 period of the Grand Tour by engravers Roman plays masterpieces of the Vatican Museums, the Capitol and other, ancient Roman sculptures up to the neoclassic period. The objects that we produced can not be found on the market and it is our workshop, only to have them executed.

The GrandTour was a long journey in continental Europe made by the rich young European aristocrats in the seventeenth century and designed to improve their knowledge with start and finish in the same city.This trip could last from a few months to several years. The final destination was commonly Italy, or more rarely Greece.
During the tour, the young people learned about politics, culture, art and antiquities of European countries. They spent their time doing sightseeing, studying and doing acquisti.L ‘Italy, with its legacy of ancient Rome, with its monuments became one of the most popular places to visit. In addition to knowledge of the ancient world, the British were thus in contact with the works of Palladio and Neoclassicism.During the journey, the young people could buy, according to their means and possibilities, many works of art and antiques and visit the ruins of Rome, but also of Pompeii and Herculaneum were rediscovered recently. At the same time, even art students from all parts of Europe came to Italy to learn from ancient models.
During the nineteenth century, most of the educated youth made the Grand Tour Later, it became fashionable for young women. A trip to Italy with her maiden aunt as chaperon was part of the formation of the upper-class lady. Grand Tour expression, seems to have made its appearance on the guide An Italian Voyage of Richard Lassels, published in 1698. The success of the book by Thomas Coryat Coryat’s Crudities is often regarded as the beginning of the craze for the Grand TourJohann Wolfgang von Goethe operated its Grand Tour of Italy from 1786 to 1788 of which he wrote in his famous travelogue Journey to Italy.
